Everyone loves and needs sleep. Over the last couple of years, I’ve set out on a mission to make my sleep the best it could possibly be. I’ve never given pillows much of a second thought until I started having problems with mine several years ago, so the search began for the best pillow on the market. In this review, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the Cool+ pillow from Coop Sleep Goods. I’ve also reviewed the Eden and the Latex pillow from Coop if that’s more your speed.

Who is Coop? Why Cool+?
Finding the perfect pillow requires a lot of research, and a lot of reading reviews from people who (thankfully!) decided to share their experiences online. In that research, I kept seeing Coop mentioned. I tried many other pillows before giving Coop pillows a shot. Coop’s main selling point is that their pillows are adjustable, just take out or add as much of their shredded memory foam that you need for your desired firmness or height. The pillows that kept getting the most shoutouts are their Original pillow and the Eden.
Around the time that I was considering biting the bullet on a Coop pillow, they had just come out with a new and improved version of the Eden—the Cool+. This new pillow promised luxurious cooling features that would keep you cool all night. I wouldn’t say cooling properties were high on my priority list for a pillow, but it certainly wasn’t a negative. I went all-in on the Cool+ with a queen size in the classic shape and hoped for the best.
In the Box
When opening the Cool+ pillow, it comes in a very nice box and is rolled up in a vacuum-sealed bag. In the box is also an additional half-pound of the memory foam filling that goes inside the pillow. This is for folks who need even more height or firmness than what already comes in the pillow. You’ll also see the cooling pillowcase that comes with the pillow.
After freeing the pillow from its bag, you will notice that it smells strongly of memory foam which may be a con for you. If you’re like me and are a little insane, you might find the smell to be very pleasant. You’ll instantly see it start to puff up. Coop recommends letting the pillow sit out for a day or two before sleeping on it to allow it to fully expand and air out. Alternatively, I think you can pop it in the dryer to fluff it if your dryer has a setting with no heat. I let mine sit out for about 12 hours, and then fluffed it by hand because I couldn’t wait to sleep on it. I stuffed the pillow into the cooling pillowcase and was ready for my first night of luxury. Be warned, getting this pillow into the cooling pillowcase was a bit of a battle. I don’t think I’ll be washing the pillowcase very frequently.
Cool+ Features
What sets the Cool+ pillow apart from other Coop pillows is its cooling technology. Coop has integrated cooling properties in a few different ways.

Gel-Infused Memory Foam

The filling of the Cool+ pillow is a mixture of gel-infused memory foam and what they call a microfiber. I would say this mixture is about 90% foam and 10% fiber. The fiber included is silky and wispy if you spread it apart. The foam pieces are blue and shaped like a “+”. They claim that this foam is designed for 50% more breathability than other foams or traditional pillow fillings.

Cooling Outer Cover
The cooling pillowcase included with this pillow is a satin-like texture. It is very cool to the touch!

Heat-Wicking Inner Liner
The inner casing of the pillow that contains the foam pieces has a unique feature. One side of this inner casing has an additional thin layer of gel-infused memory foam that is designed to offer an even cooler and firmer experience when sleeping on it. The other side does not and is designed to be more plush. I can see this being great for people who are sensitive to shredded foam and can feel the pieces through the pillow as this additional layer of foam really smooths out any texture from the shredded pieces. Coop even includes a tag on the casing that lets you know which side is “Cooler & Firmer”.

Sleep Test
My first night on the Cool+ was, in fact, pretty luxurious. I spent the first week with this pillow fine-tuning the perfect amount of fill for me. Typically, I prefer a lower loft pillow so I had to take a decent amount of filling out. I slept great on this pillow for the most part. The cooling sensation was pleasant. The support was great.
My primary complaint about the Cool+ is the included pillow cover. While it’s very cooling, it’s also very slippery. I found it to slip out from under my neck throughout the night leaving me with no support at times. If you have slippery sheets, I would bet that this pillow would even slip right off your bed! In the same vein of slipping, I found the fill to move around inside the pillow. It seemed like it was even too slippery inside of the pillow.
To remedy these quirks, I tried putting a normal pillowcase over it. This almost completely solved the problem of the pillow physically slipping from under my neck, but severely decreased the cooling properties. Most of the cooling sensation from this pillow comes from the pillow cover. If you want to put an additional pillowcase on top of it, I recommend a very thin one.
To address the fill from slipping inside of the pillow, I tried using a different pillow cover, the one that comes with Coop’s Eden pillow to be exact. This did help a little bit, enough to where I could confidently keep this pillow. Doing this robs you entirely of any cooling sensation as the Eden’s pillow cover is thicker than a normal pillowcase. It’s also worth noting that since I prefer a lower loft and a very plush pillow, the slipping that’s happening inside of my pillow may be more emphasized compared to someone who prefers a tightly packed, or firmer, pillow. There’s a lot of room in my pillow for the fill to move around!
Final Thoughts
The Cool+ is a great pillow. It has some quirks, and if you’re willing to work around them, most people will probably love this pillow. Overall, I slept on this pillow for around three months until a new bombshell entered the villa, but more on that in another post. The longer I slept on it, I did notice that I would sometimes get some soreness in my head as if I was laying on it for too long even if it had only been a few hours. That may just be a me issue (I do have a long history of head and neck problems), but something to note.
Here’s my final pros and cons list for the Cool+ pillow from Coop Sleep Goods:
Pros of the Cool+ Pillow from Coop Sleep Goods
- Adjustable: You’re guaranteed to find your perfect fit making it great for side, back, stomach, and combo sleepers.
- Cooling: Superior cooling technology. If you’re looking to stay cool at night, this is a must-have! With that being said, be realistic with your expectations of how cooling this can be. It’s a cooling sensation that lulls you to sleep. Don’t expect it to stay ice cold all night.
- Quality: Everything about this pillow is luxurious and well-made.
- HSA/FSA Eligible: You’re able to use your HSA or FSA to get Coop pillows.
- Return Policy: If you buy directly from Coop’s site, you’ll have 100 days to try it out and get a full refund if you decide that it isn’t for you. Normal Amazon return policy will apply if you purchase on Amazon.
- Longevity: This pillow won’t go flat or clump-up like a standard pillow only filled with microfiber. I give this a quick fluff with my hands every few days and it’s as good as new. If you want to do a major fluff, it’s easy to unzip the inner casing and pull apart foam with your hands.
Cons of the Cool+ Pillow from Coop Sleep Goods
- Expensive: This pillow will cost you $145 for the queen-sized classic shape, and $159 if you opt for the crescent or cut-out variations. King-sized options are just slightly more.

Speaking of, signing up for Coop’s rewards program could get you additional savings if you complete some of their sign-up activities to earn points. You can also buy on Amazon for the same price. - Slippery: The pillow cover, while cooling, can be slippery. This might cause the pillow or memory foam filling to slip around during the night.
